From our own private collection.
Our stunning Gold / Silver Rajasthani Wall Hanging was bought from a merchant in Jaisalmer, a walled medieval city, deep in the Great Thar Desert of Western Rajasthan back in 1996 on one of our first buying trips in this region.
The wall hanging is a mosaic of traditional hand embroidered pieces, it is believed that the pieces were embroidered by Muslim women in the Kutch Area of Western Rajasthan bordering Pakistan in the 1970's.
Muslims are forbidden from depicting living things in their art as all living things were created by God, so Muslim Art always portrays geometric designs. In order to make their designs more beautiful they use stunning gold and silver metallic thread.
This piece is a unique genuine work of art , contemporary pieces are of a far lower quality. This piece was made for love whereas contemporary pieces are made for profit.
Our Beautiful Gold & Silver Rajasthani Wall Hanging measures 21 1/4 inches by 37 3/4 inches and has a black cotton border.
